Cannot say for 17s, my 6t8 has a set of 18x11s for the track and 18x10s for the street. 5" b/s on both. The 69 has 16x10s 5" b/s, both cars have the offset trailing arms. On the front of the 6t8 there I run 18x9s with 4.5" b/s and on the 69 16x8s with 4" b/s.
With std. trailing arms relocating the parking brake calbe mount to the top of the T/A is required to run 4.5" b/s. Maybe my experience will help.
In 1970 the fender lip was increased, the 10" wide rears and 9" on the front on the 6t8 do not extend beyond the fenders. T
P/S, A shorter rear spring is required in some cases.
There are a bunch of C3s running a 18X9.5 with a 5"backspace with no issues. With a 18" wheel the frame is the limiting factor with the backspace. On a 17" wheel the trailing arm may get in the way with a 5" backspace.
I have a set of these on my 80 with 2.5" wheel adapters and 275/40 ZR17 tires all around. My suspension is VBP Performance Plus full kit with offset trailing arms. http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Wheels_3/...ntiac/C6-Z06_2
My '72 has had C4 rims for some 20 years now currently '89 vette rims....17x9.5 I had to mover the ebrake mount to behind the rotor, to keep it off the side of the tire, the VBP adapters are 2.5" thick so it takes TEN lug nutz to see the rotor, this is front and rear.....
I have 275/50/17 in rear and 255/50 in front.....
now one word...my car was an old show car, and so has the wider fenders similar to a late shark, and the 'mud flaps' front and rear....the wheel center line is the same as stock, but going from 8" to 9.5 inch is obviously 3/4 inch on each side.....I dunno how that lines up with stock '72/etc fenders......
I had to limit the steering by building up the block snub on the lower control arm, to keep tires off the sway bar and maybe even the frame.....not that anyone notices in driving it.....
