Seriously, my C3 brethren, I need to know, am I the only one who comes back from a 'tops-off' (don't go there), nice afternoon drive with a noticeably sore face from smiling so much. I don't even realize it's there until my wife looks over to see me beaming and it usually puts one on her face.
Just wondering 'cause the face really does get a little sore from the perpetual grin. I'm a blessed guy with other things to smile about, that's for sure. But, even after three years there seems to be something about looking at and driving a C3 that causes almost reflexive smiling. Just me?
Not really a tech question, but I prefer to drive with the tops on with the exception that it helps the cabin. Driving it in any manner makes the smile muscles hurt.
This inherent ability to appreciate something like driving a Corvette, or my Harley, is something I am thankful for every day. It all started with my plastic car models at a very early age, has spanned my 57 year life, went through RC model planes, flying real planes, motorcycles and now my life long dream of a C3 Corvette. I find it amazing how many people I meet in life who have NOTHING like this in their life......! Wow, too bad for them. Unlike people, these things never let me down.
Florida is defiantly a car state, I get beeps/smiles/grins/waves every time I go around the block, not that the car is that slick, but it's just the attitudes.....so just set back and grin.....
A drive in the Corvette can make a bad day, or any day for that matter, infinitely better! If the weather is bad, sometimes i just tell my wife "I'm just gonna go sit in the Corvette and make motor noises with my mouth!" Yes, I think every day how lucky I am.
Heck yea, you are not alone, can't hide the good feeling of driving my C3.
Yep - that's the grin I was referring to. You have exactly the same affliction resulting in "C3 sore-face".
The beautiful changing weather, to go along with that beautiful C3 of yours, isn't going to lessen the smiling face pain.
I've had my 73 for 18 yrs, even on days I don't drive it I still have to go out to my shop to just walk around it and look. It seems as though I am looking at it for the first time and I'm still amazed. (I hope my wife doesn't read this)
I have to add this. When I was a kid my friends father had a 69, 427, 4 speed corvette with A/C. He drove it 15 miles to work every day and twice a year from Long Island NY to Texas for a company meeting that lasted a week. Once in the spring, once in the fall , as he was afraid to fly.
He also towed a Chris Craft Nova boat with the vette. His wife would not let him put the hitch on the station wagon. It was funny to see it going down the block with the boat behind it.
So yes they are a lot of fun and yes they can be used as daily drivers. He had that car for at least 10 years.
Depending on the car and options they can be crude or refined. The same goes for fast or slow.

It’s been years since I have been in the c3.
one of the things I never forgot about it with side pipes on it, is that it is loud and being BB don’t help and on warmer days it can get hot in the cockpit too.
Just get use to one first before getting too aggressive as that front end is way longer than you think.
It never gets old. The first time I drove it I felt like I was in a spaceship/saucer, with the contoured hood and high fenders seemingly higher up than I was sitting. Very cool. And it still feels that way. Great!
I take my tops off in the spring and put them on a shelf in the garage for the summer. Have had the car for over 30+ years and only gotten caught a handful of times. Usually drive about 600 miles a year and enjoy every one.
