I had my car painted base coat/clear coat. It was color sanded and the machine glazed and then hand glazed, but it still does not look perfect. It looks kind of cloudy in some areas. What do you suggest as far as polishing it to a more mirror like shine, and what techniques do you use?
What grit paper was is sanded with? What products did you compound it with? What kind of polisher did you use? If it is still cloudy, obiously you did not buff out all of the sand scratches. I prefer 3M Perfect it III #5933 for compounding. It works best at 16-1800 rpms with a 5719 pad. For swirl removal I use a soft foam pad. Good Luck, Craig
Would first determine what is making it look cloudy. Is it orange
peel? If so would wet sand with 1500 grit paper till the finish
is smooth. Then use a rubbing compound with a wool pad on
a buffer. Finish with a foam pad using polishing comound or
swirl mark remover.
Is it cloudy do to scratches left from wet sanding? If so follow the
steps above except leave out the wet sanding, unless there is
still orange peel.
Before doing the above sanding and buffing, would make sure there is
enough clear coat. Need to know how many coats were sprayed.
If unsure there is enough, would have the paint shop improve the
shine, even if you have to pay them for the extra labor, so you don't
sand or buff thru the clear coat.
If it is cloudy due to a problem within the clear coat, then
would take it back to the paint shop. Have sometimes seen
clear coat dry with a cloudy appearance possibly due to it
picking up moisture.
