Anybody have a trick for returning the white expansion tanks to their original color after they turn brown/yellow. This part has not been available for years and and due to it being a 73 only tank I doubt anybody will repro it. Thanks Chuck D
I have been looking for a fix for the yellow plastic for ages but no luck. So you stay with the original but yellow tank or get an incorrect but white tank. Oh what is a perston to do :cry
I could never get mine clean so I replaced it 4 years ago. I think I ordered it from Dr. Rebuild out of FL. I may replace it with an aluminum overflow tank this winter. Now you guys have me wondering if I got the replacement tank for a 74. Rod

Rod,
Believe that the good doctor did have NOS tanks for the 73 but that stock is now depleted.
Its almost impossible to get it white again,i managed to get my "less" yellowish, but it seems that the plastic it self is going yellow by age :(
I`m going to make a new one out of stainless steel or aluminium this winter.Love that "Race" look :D :yesnod:
You can clean any crud on the outside with a Dremel tool buffing pad and white jeweler's rouge. Both are available at Home Depot. Be careful when using the Dremel buffing wheel and rouge. The "Hot" or "Cold" raised letters on the expansion tank will wear down smooth if too much force is applied. This works of course only for the outside. Do you have any tricks to clean up the inside of the tank?
has anybody tried to put it in a dishwasher?Dishwashers are great ,every nice garage should have one:)Not that i have one,yet..But i dont have a nice garage either
My current tank is servicable but not real pretty. I tried to bleach it last year and that took a lot of the grud off. I think I will live with it rather than mod the car. Thanks for all the replies. Chuck D
Man, I had the same problem with my '79 and someone on here told me to call the dealer. I did that and 24 hours later I had a new one. Now I have a spare tank. Maybe you could clean the old one with some of that cleaner they advertise called "CLR" think it stands for Calcium, Lime, or Rust. Which are the things that it's supposed to remove. Good luck with whatever way you go.
