Looking at possibly buying the 195cc Blueprint 64cc aluminum heads for my 357 build. It will have a Howards retro roller 525/525 110LSA cam. Any idea how long my pushrods will need to be for this setup? I am planning on using the Summit long slot 1.5 roller rockers. Also I assume the springs on these heads can handle this roller cam?
Watch this video and get the length correct. To many "Ebay" engine builders using 7.250" long pushords with aftermarket heads. These will all need valve guides prematurely.
They are a good flowing head but I would not recommend buying them unless they come from a quality shop that has gone through them and check guide clearance and valve job.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I always buy bare heads. One big reason is if you by complete heads how do you know that the springs will match your cam. Do you spend another $200 for the correct springs.
Also a head should never be put on without complete dis-assembly and a complete check of everything from valve guides to valve seats. Also heads will usually always need some deburring.
My brand new AFR 227's needed to have the guides opened up one thou.
Get you one of these; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-9000
Use it to check the sweep on top of the valve stem. Get the sweep as small as possible, not necessarily centered on the valve. It depends on the geometry of the rocker and the installed height.
Use the method outlined by Straub and get it right the first time.
Heed the advice given here on checking any head you do buy it will save you plenty of future problems.
Pre assembled heads use cheap springs and may have plenty of hidden problems. If you do get the pre assembled just do as suggested and get them checked to prevent problems later on down the road.
