Default 1977 wiper/dimmer/signal switch

the switch in this ebay post is pretty much identical to the original. you will have to drill out the pivot to fit the shoulder bolt. also trace the wiring as you will have to move one wire to match the original harness.

ebay.com/itm/New-1978-79-Chevette-Windshield-Wiper-Turn-Signal-Switch-w-Dimmer-Pivot-7827386-/221429602637?hash=item338e3b994d:g:ThkAA OxyBjBTRrWw&vxp=mtr&rmvSB=true

just finished installing and it works perfectly.

gm part number 7827386 form a 78/79 chevette.

Good info. That is a 1977 only part and very hard to find. Can you share any of the details that made it work?

You will need to drill out the large end of the casting to fit the shoulder bolt. I used 11/32.

You will also need to take the black wire that comes from the white plastic base of the switch, and move it from the D slot and splice it to the white wire so both are in the C slot on the connector. Make sure to carefully trace the wires on both switches to make sure you've got the correct wires.

I couldn't get pictures to post but I will e-mail them to any one who asks for them.

is it also possible to replace this windshied wiper switch by a switch from a earlier or later version? If I connect the wipers to the electric system, they will stay going on. I can only stop them by holding the lever in a certain position.

Arnoud you can change how you operate the wipers to a dash mounted switch but I think modifying the one I used would be easier and you would not be changing your dash. Bought on E_BAY from micksrummagesale.

1977 was the only year this switch was used and the real ones are several hundred dollars if you can find one

First a couple questions, do you have a tilt telescoping steering column?
And what seems to be broken on your switch?
The switch portion of the switch is real simple in design, it's a 3 position rocker switch with simple brass contacts...
If it is a broken pivot bracket on a T&T column I can get you some GM part numbers.
Many different GM models used the same pivot bracket that with a simple modification can be switched out and used on your 77.
The GM #78273386 switch used above is also very hard to find nowadays...
The original 77 Wiper/Washer switch for a T&T column was GM #7827152
The 386 switch as stated above does need 2 simple modifications...
Physically, the 386 & 152 switches look the same at first glance...
Here are a few angles of a 7827152 switch...
The pivot bracket on the switch in my photo is of first design, later GM made the pivot bracket stronger by eliminating several cutouts when the bracket was cast...

Newer style pivot bracket(s)
