I recently purchased a used tach drive distributor. Seller stated that it was a Mallory, but upon inspection it's a Delco Remy # 1112247 that's been converted to electronic ignition. Seems to be in great condition, but I'm wondering if it'll work in my BB. Turns out that it's for a 74 L48 350. Should I use it or buy the right one? Thanks in advance.
Mechanically it will fit. The advance curve is probably different, but for most applications just make sure the vacuum advance can suits the engines idle manifold vacuum pressure and that all the centripetal advance is in by 3000RPM. I'd recommend disassembling it and checking the shaft bushings and the wear on the tach drive gear housing.

The small and big blocks use the same distributor but I am surprised you didn't upgrade to the more powerful HEI. How much did you have to pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

Can you post a picture so we can see what was actually done to the distributor?
Here's some pics of the distributor. I bought it from another forum member. It came with a cap, wires, the matching coil and bracket. $ 250 included shipping.
Nothing wrong with a std distributor at least for std engines, I would also suggest stripping the unit and check for wear and lubricate the unit while it is in pieces. Check the tach drive carefully for wear and make sure it is properly lubricated as well. You will need a timing light to check the advance (preferably a dial back type) or a timing tape fitted to the harmonic balancer on the front of the crankshaft.
