Default Door removal method

Hi all,
I am going to take the doors of my 74 and I am wondering is it best to unbolt the hinges from the door pillar or from the door itself. Also any tips on how to support the door whilst you remove it.

Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew, the best way to remove the doors is before you start take some paint gray primer or whatever and spray where the bolts are on the door. This will give you a guide as to where to exactly place the bolts once removed. Then go ahead and remove the bolts from the DOOR! Once done with your work you will have the witness markings for where to put your bolts to get the door back on. You can lay the door down on some padding or on a work bench. Not sure what you need to do.
Good Luck!
ZIO

I take two straps and put them around the door and use my engine hoist to hold them. It works well. These doors are very heavy.

Good idea, have used my pulley system to do the same thing and yes they are heavy.

I use a transmission jack. Look at the last picture of this post.

To remove the doors I followed this video and it was pretty easy. While you have the doors off it's a god time to replace the hinge bushings and they only cost a couple of dollars. I used a floor jack and a helper to support the door.

I used an 8 ft ladder and straps to hold my doors when I pulled them. Just opened the ladder over the door. Also supported under with a 2x4 on a floor jack. Took off the hinge bolts on the door side and slid the floor jack out to move the door. Worked okay since I don't have an engine hoist (yet!)

You can get an even more accurate realignment by drilling a small hole in each hinge. I used a 1/8" drill. Easy to cover it up once the doors are back in, if it even bothers you!

Yes to all the other suggestions.
