I never put together a how-I-did-mine on the steering box because there are so many other people with better info on it than me (ie tracdogg2)

That said, check for a thread on the other site (DC) by Gary R. titled 1963-1982 Steering Box Rebuilding

Also check this pdf

The reason I ask is because of the new bushings that come in the kit. And it doesn't make a difference where the kit came from. They all have the same issue.
Here's why:
Unlike almost any other steering box, the sector shaft rides on bushings instead of bearings. Steering box bores vary in size + or - .005. And so do sector shafts. So all new bushings are on the loose side. The worst ones are the replacement bushings from GM.
Both Gary and myself machine our own bushings. I prefer using 660 bronze.
Any decent machinist can make these bushings. Let me know if you want the dimensions.

Would you be willing to sell a set of your bushings? I think a box rebuild is on my list of things to do over winter.
