Default Dumb headlight question

I prepping my 69 for paint, I lifted the headlight to "open" position so I could get to all the behind the grill stuff easier. So, now they seem to be in a locked state as they won't go down....any tricks of the trade you guys want to share?

Engine out of car so no vac but I do have a pump if that will help?

The doors work with "knee action" linkage. Yes, they are locked in position right now. Reach up thru the valance and find the rod that all 4 springs attach to. Pull that down and the doors will close.

Take the bezels around the lights off so you can paint them too.
