i know this has been covered before but my story is a little different
i have a 1969 350/300 with a T400 auto,
i have changed the intake to a performer and the carb to a Holley 600cfm
Hood issues: tried everything but now i have installed the OG drop base and i am clear with the hood.(not by much)
my issue is the vent tube and choke hit the top of the air cleaner lid
i have bee told that the Holley 4150 650 DP will bog and splatter when i stand on it, is this correct should i stay away from the Dp, or just remove the choke flap?

Try it, the 650 dp will do fine and yes fitment of much under a stock hood is a pain in the ***. Good luck.
No matter what carb you use in "most" cases it will need some tuning .
How well does the current carb work ?
the 600cfm works well, its the fitment thats the issuse
the vent tube is hitting the lid, i took it for a drive after tuning and getting it right, put the Lid drove for about 10 min and it started to splatter soot
i had a feeling that the choke flap was not opening all the way due clearance
the car is a stock 350/300 with a T400
performer manifold
hooker headers
new distributor
flame thrower3 coil
rang the speed shop and was about to buy the 4150 DP and the guy was saying it would bog down
Easy to check run the car till arm take off the air cleaner lid and see if the choke is wide open, or run the car without the lid and see if the problem goes away. I have heard of the choke horn being removed from a Holley but I need a choke so its not something I would do.
Put a pic up of the drop base you are using and the air filter. Have you put clay between top of air cleaner and hood to measure the distance with hood closed ?

I agree, with a good drop base you should be good, I'm using a morose.
