Default Trailing arms

Where did you get yours? Rebuilt or new? How much? Quality of work?

I shipped mine to Bair's for rebuild. Little over $800 with shipping. They build a lot of TA's and are very good at what they do. Turn around was quicker than I could get the frame and underbody cleaned and painted.

Figured I'd have that much into the tools to do it. How did you manage that?

In 2010, I replaced mine with Van Steel rebuilt TAs. They have held up well mechanically, so I have no complaints there. Many on this forum swear by Van Steel, and they will back up their product. As I recall, I think the price without trading in the old arms was in the $900 range, but I could be recalling that incorrectly.

In terms of the cosmetic appearance (i.e., powder coating), I am actually disappointed, the paint is flaking off.

This car gets driven (a lot), so I fully expect wear to be obvious - I am just surprised at how the paint is not holding up. Compared to my frame, the arms actually look older.

SO far, it's superficial, and since they are mechanically holding up and doing the job, I have chosen not to get too hung up on the appearance.

I also have a spare set from a local corvette restorer that I may use in the next few years (depending on how the VS arms continue to hold up).

I bought mine from V-tech. My original arms had been heated up and bent to compensate for alignment back in the day, so having them rebuilt was out of the question. I bought rebuilt arms with a rotor for about $1200 with shipping and core charge. Runout was within spec. So far so good.

New VBP offset trailing arms. I'm VERY pleased with the construction. Work like butter.

Global West tubular offset trailing arms. Very well built and look good too. I like their products.

Bairs for me. They've also rebuilt hubs, steering boxes, rears and half shafts/driveshafts for me.

Thanks everyone for the input. It's very much appreciated. After looking at them today, my trailing arms are not going to be rebuildable. I'm looking at options on having to purchase some instead.

After sending mine to Vtech I was informed that they were not rebuild able. They sell good used housings that they will use and I was pleased with them and the service. Cost was about a grand for the pair completely rebuilt.

I went with Global West as well. They are very well built like you said but I did have a couple problems. The emergency brake cable had to be shortened by about 4" due to how they relocated the bracket on the TA.

And the shocks hit on the trailing arms.

One question you need to be asking yourself right now is do you want to go back with a stock suspension.
What about:
larger wheels and tires
more power from the new engine
better handling
brake upgrades

Alex,

I'm thinking of going with Vtech to rebuild my TAs. How satisfied are you with their product and what was their turn-around time?

Thanks,
Roscoe

What makes you think they're not rebuildable?
It really isn't that hard. Frankly, if I could do it, anyone can. I removed, rebuilt and reinstalled mine in a storage garage, no electricity, with only hand tools.
