If I understand the question, there is no lock-out like the original equipment shifter. There is a spring loaded gate and you have to purposely pull the shifter over into reverse.

The Competition + has no reverse lockout provision. You also can not retain the original lockout shifter since it will not bolt to the Hurst mechanism. You can buy a handle that appears stock, including a non-functional lockout release, but having a release pawl isn't really necessary with the Hurst since the gate, unlike the factory mechanism, is fairly heavily biased against the reverse gate and it takes a purposeful effort to engage reverse.
