Default Insurance

Im 18. My car is a daily driver. I have one accident 2 years ago and no tickets.
Do i really have to pay 3000 dollars a year for insurance? the cheapest major company ive found is state farm (who im with now). dose any one else here know of any company's who have more reasonable rates for vettes which dont have historic tags?

I am afraid with your age and driving record anything cheaper won't be available to you, and if it was they would require you have an additional daily driver. Insurance Bites, I can remember paying $1,600.00 a year for a 10 yr old Nissan pickup, just for liability, and I have no record. Glad them days is gone!!! :yesnod: Now I pay $120.00 a year for a vette that does 13 second 1/4 miles. Go figure.

unfortunately the insurance will stomp you until
1. you're 25
2. married
3. Have another daily and list her as a 'pleasure' vehicle
4. Get that accident off the insurance (I think they might count back 3 yrs)
5. Get a college degree (good student discount)
6. Insure a house or something large (multiple policy discount)

sucks royal ****, but it's the statistics that insurance comps go by... they generalize and discriminate in the name of profit margin:mad

ps I had to wait until all but the married one to get my vette!!

I'll probably get stomped for saying this, but it doesn't strike me as discrimination (at least not in the sense that it's unfair). Males between the age of 16-25 are involved in a disproportionate number of accidents. Seriously, how many 18year olds with a performance car are gonna drive slow & sensible? Damned few. When I was 18 I drove like a bat out of hell and regularly took chances so stupid it embarrasses me to think about it now.

I would've given my left huevo for a corvette when I was 18, but there's no way I'd let my son get one. If I have anything to say about it (which I probably won't), he's gonna drive something sensible, with airbags, even if he thinks I'm an old fart a-hole for it.

Just my '02.

left huevo...

I didn't mean to get up on a soap box- I'm not trying to say that it's completely unfair, boys will be boys. I'm probably still sore that I had to wait an extra year so I was 25 when I bought mine... My insurance would have been double at 24 compared to what I'm paying now regardless of the fact that I personally had no tickets, no at-fault accidents (I got hit once), a post graduate education, another 'sensible' vehicle and a house... Young guys just get lumped together sometimes, makin' us good ones pay more. Seems tougher when you do nothing wrong and you still can't get that dream car, I guess.

(insert sound of me getting off soap box)

-doc :)

I say that nearly every day of my life: Thank God I don't live in Jersey. :D
(I'll go put on my flame retardant suit now).
