Default Shifter levers....? (with pics)

I finally got my 72 up on jackstands to try to diagnose my downshift issue....I was having to double clutch to get it into 2nd or 1st. Last time I took her for a spin and was trying to pull into the driveway it would go into 1st or 2nd and I had to put it in 3rd to get up the driveway.

Well so far I have found wrong clips, shifter levers turner backwards and a reverse lever that doesn't look like the sketch in the AIM at all.

Can anyone take a look at the pics below and confirm what I'm seeing....?

I have no idea if any of this is even part of my downshift problem but it can't be helping.

Your clutch pedal needs at least 1" of free play so if it doesn't you need to adjust your clutch linkage first.

There should be G clips holding the adjuster blocks into the shift levers and not cotter pins. Look at the slop in the last pic. G clips are spring loaded to put pressure on the shift lever and hold the rod tight against it.

Hard to tell but it looks right. Reverse paw on mine is much longer though.

According to those pics above my 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th levers are definitely turned the wrong way....The offset should be closer to the trans. It also look like they are in the short throw holes.

It's hard to get pics from further away with the trans in the car.

OK....I need some additional advice....Just for reference the car is up on jack stands and the transmission is still in the car....Parking brake is off. After taking the shift rods off the levers I figured I would see how it felt to shift moving the levers....Sometime they shifted just fine other times I had to spin the driveshaft a little to get them into gear...Is this normal....?
