coil spring safe installation
I just finished a complete re-build of the front suspension on my 68 convert, including adding 460 lb/in "grand touring" springs. It's always a PIA to get the spring compressed and then get it to release and fit into the pocket on the lower A arm. I hear about people using pry bars and pounding with hammers and doing all kinds of things to make the spring compressor slip and release 1000 lbs of spring onto one's fingers or feet. A safer way is to use a come along and pull the spring slowly into place while slowly releasing the pressure on the coil spring compressor, all while keeping your distance from the spring. I used the threaded rod adapter suggested by a forum member-can't remember who- that goes up thru the shock absorber hole on the upper shock tower. Come along is anchored on the opposite side frame and the hook goes on the coil spring about 3 inches from the bottom. Allows a slow, gradual release.

The new moog springs are so much shorter, it almost eliminates the need for a spring compressor or pry bar. Just set them in, clock them correctly and jack up the arm. That's a nice compressor you have.
