Default Align Nozzle With Dot

Many years ago all of the spray paint can's instructions said "Align Nozzle With Dot" but then somewhere along the line they quit saying that. If you'll notice there is a black dot near the nozzle and you're supposed to align the opening of the nozzle with that dot. Inside the can is a bent plastic tube that attaches to the underside of the nozzle and then it curves down and touches the bottom edge of the can directly under that black dot; the purpose being so all of the paint can be used when pointing the can either straight ahead or down at an angle

So how many of you old timers knew what that black dot was for?
