Default Temperature sending unit seal

Just wanted to see what most people used when installing a new temp sending unit to insure a seal. I have heard nothing, as well as a bead of blue gasket maker.....what works best?

I use Permatex 80632 on pipe threads. Any pipe dope for plumbing would work. Start with clean and dry threads. IMHO RTV is not a good choice on pipe threads. mike...

Teflon (PTFE) tape almost always works for me. Either that or a liquid thread sealer/dope. I wouldn't use RTV either.

Any thread sealer will do because there will always be some contact being made to complete the circuit.

I use Teflon tape on the first three threads only. Teflon isn't a sealer and with the NPT threads you don't need a sealer, you just need the threads to mesh properly.

Teflon tape is a lubricant that will help seat the NPT threads of the sender. Use to much of anything and you could impede the grounding of the sender.

As always, this is very good advise!

I had this happen to me once with a Temp Sender - tough one to find - but you don't forget it!
