Hi all, looks like I need to have the flywheel replaced on my 76. I have a small rear main seal leak and I'm thinking of having it done at the same time. Can you all let me know if there's any additional major work (besides replacing the seal) to have the main seal done at the same time? Does the oil pan need to come off to replace it? Thanks.

The drive shaft, transmission, shifter, bell housing, and oil pan need to be removed to be able to do both jobs.
Thanks. How many teeth does the flywheel have for a stock 350 automatic transmission?
The Chev flywheels/flexplates come with either a smaller 153 tooth or the larger 168.
Depends entirely on the application! All dependent balanced units (400 SB's and 454 BB's) used the larger wheels.
Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. A quick look at the starter bolt locations will tell the wheel size, if the bolts are straight across (in line) from each other the wheel is small, if you have staggered starter bolts, you have the larger wheel.

The rear main is a tricky procedure with the crank still installed.....
For years the Fel-Pro seal came with the "shoe" tab that you would stick between the block and the seal to prevent it from being tore up on the blocks sharp edge when you go to roll it around.
Make sure it is the seal leaking and not the oil pan "smiley face" rubber in the back between the pan and the rear cap.
It most certainly can be done though.....be patient and buy two seals...one for backup
