I am chasing a noise coming from the front of my engine along with a intermittent vibration passing through at about 1500 rpm . I dont know that the two are related i.e. the noise does not occur when the vibe does. What would you get with a faulty vibe damper? 78 pace car, L-82, alum. heads, 1.6 rockers, duals, headers. I have checked alternator, ac comp., pwr steering pump and it has a new water pump. Noise is a muted squeek on about the same frequency as a lifter noise (its not a lifter).

The harmonic vibration damper won't cause any vibration or noise as long as its not coming apart. But if its the original I recommend replacing it as soon as possible because sooner or later the outer ring will slip and then the timing mark will move to a retarded position.
maybe check the pulleys...I got a free '68 impala when I was a teen that I restored, guy thought the 327 had a bad main bearing. was knocking and had some vibration from the front of the motor as well. drove it home and the front pulley fell off the balancer. the 3 bolts had gotten loose, warbled out the holes, then sheared completely off flush...at least something to check (could not see it while running, I thought it was a bad bearing too until the pulley fell off). btw, after rebuild and paint, I sold it for a $3,500 profit! (this was '89, before musclecar prices went crazy)
check the balancer, the one on my car actually allowed the outer ring to move backwards enough to scrape the timing cover. It would come and go took forever to figure out what it was.
