i finaly put my headers and side pipes on today because i got my trans back in. the dirver's side went on fine but when it came to the passenger side it was about 2in off on the back bolt. So i tryed to losen the headers and it still was saging down much further than the right side.
How about a little help... A little bit more detail, is it up against something etc... would be helpful in trying to figure out what the problem might be..
I had to trim some of the fiberglass and rocker on the passenger side to get clearence. The drivers side fit up fine. Is that what you're decribing, the side pipe is low at the outlet?
ok all header bolts are loosened and header does not seem to be hiting anythink. When they are tight, the header seems to angle down about 10 degrees or so. This saging makes the pipe not meet up with the bolt holes on the frame. What are the chances of this being a factory defect????? when i force the pipe up it still comes no where close to lining up
I think Hooker really needs to go back and look at their welding processes. I purchased a set of Hooker side exhaust headers and side pipes for my 69 big block last year. The passenger side bolted right up. The drivers side hit the lower front fender once I started tightening down the header bolts. Called Hooker and after a little bit of arguing they sent me another one. It bolted right up even though I had to make a couple little dings in a few spots for extra clearance. This shows the headers can be manufactured differently.
What you have to do is use the LT1 drop base lower filer assembley and cut off your choke tower (air horn) off the carberator. then do not use a wing nut but use a bolt (more clearance) and make sure the stud is all the way down . This works with my LT1 hood, but I have seen it done with a 69 stock hood. There ends up being about a 1/8 in of clearance or less.. SO NO DROPING THE HOOD DOWN, you must be very gentle. I know because i have a spider crack in my hood from a wing nut :nonod:
John. The guy who installed my "383" also did the headers and sidepipes. He said they went on like a glove. But on the other hand Ive' heard of some being hard. Good luck..... JCL :yesnod: "Have Baffles. Will Travel".
