I have purchased a six speed from a 97 TA. I want to install this in my 81 big block car.I have read there might be some issues with the input shaft length, its been mixed information as to the input shaft problem that affects (shaft to short) the ls1 6 speeds or both the lt1 and ls1. I just need reassurance and advice on mating this trans to my engine, and whats needed. I think I have a grasp on the shifter, peddles driveshaft, etc. Thanks in advance for any intel on this install.. Vic..

Ive asked a dozen times here and the only answer I get is 'Tremec 5 and 6 speed'
I desperately want a 5 speed, but I can barely afford to rebuild my Muncie this winter. I wish there was some common manual transmission that hooked up. What other mods does this 97 TA need? (I think Im asking the same question you are)
Guys, there are a few threads on the LT1 T56, you will need to search.
MIKE80 has one http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...gs-list-7.html
First make sure what trans you have as there are several. The newer, the stronger they are. The LT version in stock form has an unusual clutch/slave setup. You can use that or change to a different setup.
My thread in the link provided by 74mod explains what was involved for my trans swap. I had no issues with the input shaft being too short for my small block. Not sure what the difference would be mating to a big block, if any.
The 6 speed and hydraulic clutch conversion are one of the best upgrades that you can do, and can be very inexpensive if you plan it right (I have under $1000 into my swap after selling my old 4 speed parts).
