I'm considering swapping manifolds, for no real good reason other than I want to. Right now, stock (and heavy as he!!). Have been looking at the zz4 aluminum manifold as a replacement. I'm running an original Q-jet with divorced choke. I was given an Edelbrock choke adapter. Will that work on the zz4 with the original Q-jet choke spring? Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all, Bill

Well u need a cover over the heated crossover port for the tube of "hot air" type chokes on the pass side of intake. Edelbrock sells one but its for their intakes and may not produce the correct height for the choke rod that is operated by a heated coil inside a "dog house" over that cover/port. U can try the Edel cover and maybe get it right with some physical adjusting of the rod. But whether it heats the coil correctly is unknown.
I dont know of any conversions that actually work for the divorced choke to electric. Though i have actually seen one it is questionable to me whether it even works. Before trying something like that i would rather install a good old manual cable to operate the choke. Yes they are still at the parts stores and once correctly installed hard to beat. Just my 2 cents.
Another option is to go with a late 70's QuadraJet and either source a hot air choke setup or [my preference] set it up for an electric choke. The late 70's carbs tend to be easier to find in good shape for a good price and also are easier to tune and have fewer reliability issues than earlier carbs.
I took off the old intake manifold because the shop I had work on the car a few months ago had replaced the manifold using forward and rear gaskets instead of RTV (correct term?). It definitely was leaking. The ZZ4 replacement was actually a Christmas present because I'd mentioned it to my bro. Turns out, it is approx. 1/4 inch taller than the original. That 1/4 inch raises heck with the air cleaner. My hood, altho resembling an L88, doesn't have much more, if any, clearance than stock. With the original air cleaner, it is just too tight. I took off the steel ring atop the cleaner, cut down the rubber ring, found a 2" oval air filter that I made fit the 12" round top. I've run it a bit and it seems to work fine. Going out on the highway tomorrow to see how it really works. BTW, the rubber ring wasn't original so it didn't bother me to cut it; and, also, the intake manifold DOESN'T LEAK!!!!!!!! Hope everyone has a great week/weekend, Bill
I installed a mech choke on mine ages ago and I was able to find one new. If you still need the part number I can look in my files. Mine was installed a Weiand manifold.

The adaptor I mentioned in my OP (changing the mounting platform from angled to flat) worked great. I had to bend the rod from the spring to the choke a bit, but it functions perfectly. BTW, I took it out today for a highway trial run and it ran fine. So far, I'm very pleased.
Have a wonnerful weekend, Bill
