Default Mega Question thread

OK. Today is the first day I've had in the almost 2 weeks I've had this car (1969 coupe) to get out there and really go through it. I have a good bit of work ahead of me. Anyway I have several questions. So here goes.

1: What is this on the front of my seats?

2: Is this how to install this part of the seat belt? What am I missing?

3: What is this 3rd wire for on the power window motor?

4: Can I buy these little velcro things?

5: What is this thing I found in my door?

I've got more but that will do for now.

The little wire is a ground wire, the "Velcro" things can be purchased from any of the Corvette parts vendors, and I THINK the plastic piece is a shield for the door lock.

#1 is the clip on the front of each seat bottom that you put the long end of the seat belt in when you're not wearing it so it's not hanging out the door or laying on the floor..
#5 is the water diverter that attaches to the door frame and gives some protection to the latch mechanism. When in place they also make it a bit more difficult to unlock the door with a slim jim.

Sorry. 1969. Updated original message.

Where does it connect to?

I've ordered the assembly manual but still waiting on it to arrive.

#2 yes that is WHERE your belt attaches. Unfortuantely the bolt head is broken off. Thats not a stud it's supposed to be a bolt.
#3 Power window motor wiring will have 2 hots and a ground.
1 hot for window up. 1 for window down.Actually reverses the motor run direction.
#4. Is like a velro attachment piece . Door panel will have a piece just like it to hold the panel on the door.
#5 that is shielding to cover the door lock rods and mechanism. keeps thieves from slim jimming the latch & levers.

Odd, Both sides are the same. I'll have to look better but it doesn't look like a broken bolt.

Those are studs and the belt is attached with a nut. The clip on front of the seat is for the long section of the seat belt for storage when not in use. Early '69's (like mine) did not have these.

Learn something new every day. I had never seen a belt attached with a nut on a stud. Haven't had a 68 or 69 apart though either

Default Questions

That is the way you attach the 69 seat belt.
The plastic piece covers the locking handle mechanism and protects it from water running down into the assembly.

Thanks! I'm missing the nuts for the 2 studs. What do I need to buy? Can I use nuts and washers from a hardware store or do I need something else?

The ones I bought from a Corvette Vendor look more like half nuts. I would be surprised if these nuts are anything special, but I would stick with a Corvette vendor for these items, IMHO.

Hope this helps! and you are embarking on fun now I would say! The AIM will help immensely. All the best to you!
