radar detectors
anyone have one hardwired into their vette? i was told that i could just hook it up directly to the battery... i dont know...anyone here have it done, how did you do it? thanks guys (and gals)

If I were going to do it I'd wire it to th ignition. But if I pay the pennies for a Val, it's going mobile between the Mako and the Saturn

I don't have one hardwired in the vette but I have one like that in my daily driver. I wired it to the ignition so that it turns on when you turn the key on. I ran the wire up the windshield moulding and across to the center of the windshield. I then left about a 2 inch pigtail. I can slide the detector (Escort) onto it's mount and then just plug it in. It's a clean setup and allows you to remove the detector so you don't tempt the pimply faces. :flag

The problem with wiring it to the battery is that when you forget to turn it off it will drain your battery. No really a problem if you drive it every day, but leave it on several days and your battery will be dead. It would be best to find a fuse that is only hot when the ignition is turned on.
