I order a replacement tach pointer from one of the vendors to replace a broken one. When I tried to put it in, the hole on the pointer seems to be too large, the pointer would fall out. This was a year ago and since then I have order one from just about every vendor to only have the same issue.
While at the NCRS In Lakeland, I found an oem tach with a trashed face plate but a good pointer for cheap. Thought I would use that point but, I'm having issues removing it and don't want to break it.
Is there a way to remove it with less risk from breakage or should I just grab it and pull and hope for the best?
Also has anyone had the same issues with new pointers?

No one makes a correct tach needle for your car. I've posted this on our website for a long time. Some time ago one of the other vendors post that the needle would fit both the speedo and tachometer but it's not true as you have found out.

How to get the needle off...
If I break the needle there is no way to use the new one. ok, I better make a tool. Sometimes I can't understand how something so simple can't be fixed. In the eighty, I purchased a speedo needle for my first 78 and it fit perfect.

Yeppers.. speedo needles were available and so were the tach needles in the 80's... The difference is the spindle shaft size and the fact that the tach needle was counter weighted differently. I suppose you could take the brass center out of the old one and possibly epoxy it to a speedo needle but what pain.
A small fork will probably work for you... just make sure you get under the needle flat. Also... keep in mind you must also do what is called a "zero set" on the needle when you install it on the tach. You do this by applying power and ground to the tach board and then placing the needle on the tach.
This video will show you how to do the zero set.
