I just installed a 454 HO with a Hurst 5 speed in my 74. Engine and trans went in without a hiccup. I restored almost the entire car with the help this forum. I am now at the final stages and i wanted to verify my intake manifold options.
The stock Chev Perfrm Prts intake Prt # 19131359 that came on the HO has a carb height of approx 5.2" In all my research i could not find any other manifold for rectangular ports that was less. I looked at the Weiand Action Plus and Edelbrock Performer & 7562 and any I could find for rectangular ports - All came in at or near 5.2"
The LS6, Prt # 3963569, I understand is a low profile intake however i have read users have to add a spacer to get the performance. If so do that bring you back up to a carb height of 5"
I am going with the L88 hood and created my 4" gage across the engine bay. Thinking of going with the Holley 770 Street Avenger. Things look to be close.
If you have an L-88 hood..that intake should work fine. Basically it's an Edelbrock Performer.
The old Holley Strip Dominator single plane works well also. The trick is if the carb pad is machined at an angle or not.

The recommended carb by CPP is the 770 Holley Street Avenger # 0-83770 and in their catalog they advertise that this manifold is made for Holley carbs.
Does that sound right and with this set-up I should be able to use a decent air filter and close the hood
Well....we'll get all sorts of pushback...do a earch on carbs...but I'm a double pumper lover especially for anything with a stick trans...and double especially for anything with a big block. Certainly th vacuum will work...but it will take some tuning to get it to really perform.
You're in LA...not sure how big of a deal a choke is to you...but something like a 750HP Holley at the minimum on up to a 950 HP (actually flows closer to 830) which would be my first choice. I'd get the "street HP" version which will work best for your engine.
