Default defroster problem

I am not getting any forced air throught the defrost vent -even with full fan. I have not yet torn into the consule or dash to trace the problem. The fan seems to work on other settings but I seem to get air only from the floor vents. Can someone offer advice on the most likely source of the problem?

Thanks!

I dont know what year you own but I had a similar problem last year on a 77 .It ended up being a vacuum port thing on the back of the ac?heat controls

Try replacing that piece , when I was trying to troubleshoot this problem everyone told me this was a common problem with these units because GM had just started making them vacuum operated.

i have the same problem with my 79. i have vacuum at the switch. when i apply vaccum to the different actuators they all work properly. so im assuming its the vacuum switch. you can bubba it by attaching a vacuum hose to the defrost actuator then connecting that hose to a hand vacuum pump tester then apply vacuum. that might be how i get thru the winter. havent priced the cost of the switch. just finished trouble shooting this afternoon.
