Default Brake Help!

Hi All,

How tight do you thread brake lines into their respective fittings? I can't seem to get one line to stop leaking at the proportioning valve. Also how tight do you screw in the brake light switch into the valve? It might be leaking there.

This is frustrating isn't it? I was told that for an inverted flare fitting, tighten the nut 1/4 turn past 'no-play' ie: as soon as the flares meet. So I did this and the fittings leaked. :cry I found another 1/4 turn was req'd, and attributed this to the fact that what appeared to be 'no-play' was not, as the hard lines do not always line up at nice co-axial intersections. The first 1/4 turn is to pull the contact faces square together, the second 1/4 turn induces the compression in the fitting that results in a pressure seal.

First-off, make sure the flare faces are clean and smooth, and are of the correct type. Good Luck.

The first time I did this I over tightened the line to the master cylinder. When I had to replace it, the line was damaged and I had to replace it (the line) too.
Sounds to me like Turbo-Jet is giving good advice :yesnod:
