A/C compressor squeals sometimes. Any suggestions?

A/C compressor squeals sometimes. Any suggestions?
My A/C compressor will squeal once in awhile, but not all the time. It usually does it if I turn it on while driving, rather than idling, but sometimes it will also squeal at idle. Also, once it's going, it will sometimes squeal out of the blue for a second or two and then quit. Sometimes it's longer than others and I just shut it off. Any ideas?

You might have just a loose or glazed belt. I don't want to suggest the compressor is about to go :eek: but it also might be a possibility. Belts are cheap, get a good belt and see if that fixes it.

Better get it check out man, the compressor could be getting ready to lock up, especially if it's an R4 design....and or the pulley/clutch could be rusting up from age....bad bearing.... possibility of the system being lo on freon and maybe even oil, but you should see traces of oil on the hood and fender if that's the case....unless you wiped it off.....

Better get it check out man, the compressor could be getting ready to lock up, especially if it's an R4 design
