This sort of thing was a big part of my decision to put a surge tank and high pressure pump under the hood. I'm scared of one of the rusty old fuel lines springing a leak; at 42PSI, a very small leak can put out a LOT of fuel. Instead, using the mechanical pump keeps pressure off of the original lines, so they'll seep and smell before they start dumping copious amounts of fuel. But I will now examine that what the previous owner(s) about capping the evap canister that is still there with one hose going to the tank. It should be a vent to the top of the tank, but I'll make sure, and maybe rout it into the air cleaner to prevent pressure and vacuum buildup.
