Default Big Block Valve Cover Question

Does anybody know if the regular BB valve covers will hit the brake booster? Do I have to use the valve covers with the relief angle on them?

Thanks in advance.

I have the stock type chrome valve covers with no relief or slant on the rear and they fit no problem. 69 427. They don't even come close to the booster.

I have 70 454 and the stock valve covers do have a cut out for the brake booster on the drivers side.

I have tall after market valve covers with no relief area and they fit just fine.

Do you think that relief is necessary?

I think the relief is there to make it easier to remove the valve cover.

No. Below is a pic of my 69 427. There is over an inch of clearance all around and they have no slant or relief.

Like others stated. I'm running tall covers with no relief. No problem getting them on and off.

The relief is farther back than you might think

Still pretty tight to the cover but not where that relief really helps.

I often wonder if it wasn't a design carry over from the C2 where the booster was flatter and larger diameter or something and there was more of an issue

Can't comment about valve cover/PB clearance - mine is BB with Brodix heads and their tall cast valve covers - I did need to 'relieve' corner of firewall/bulkhead close to corner of brake mounting point as covers were hitting body due to torque reaction with engine.
