Headlight/ headlight switch problem
On the switch I have 12V at the orange and white wires. When I jumper the orange and the yellow( headlight wire) I get headlights. when I jumper the orange to the red(with headlight switch off) nothing happens when I jumper it with the headlight switch on it shorts out(blows the 20A fuse in my jumper wire) I would say I have a ground on the red wire but I need to find where.
My first question is should I have 12 volts at the 12 gauge red wire? I think I should, but I don't and I think that that is the problem
the next question is where does this wire come from, in the crappy electrical diagrams in my haynes manual it looks like it comes from the fuse panel but does it come from there directly
Wish I could help you... I'm having a similar problem with my 80'. Except only my bright lights will work no low beams. I've checked for proper voltage/ current & things seem to be ok...replaced both bulbs...still no low beams ?? Hope that things work out and let me know what you find out ?
So far I have torn the fuse panel out to see if the 12 gauge red wire has any voltage..... it doesn't all the wasy into the engine compartment.... so that was a waste of my time....... If I ever find the electrical engineer who decided to put the fuse panel there, I'm gonna kick him in the nuts! It took me 2 hours to pull the fuse panel out and test it and put it back in..... That's only 3 screws!
Any body know if the red wire on the light switch should have 12 volts?
Come on, I need some help. Any body have their dash apart so they can test this for me?
It was a dead short at the starter solenoid. the wires rubbed against my heat shield and shorted out on the shield.
What a PIA it is to work under the dash! Its all back together now..... only one day of ride time wasted!
