I'm running a serpentine setup from a '88 TBI Camaro on my 1972 Corvette, using an R4 compressor. I cleaned and resealed the HVAC system and have plenty of R12 on-hand and a New Old Stock compressor.
I know there's a lot of negative feelings for the R4 compressor, but since mine is new, I'll give it a try. I never had one fail before.
I'd like to run an OEM hose set from a later year C3 if it will connect to my stock POA valve (which I want to keep), otherwise I'll have to have custom hoses made. (I'd like to replicate what the factory would have done, if possible)
When I got my A/C going in my '71 I replaced the POA valve with a "POA Valve Eliminator" so my clutch will cycle on and off like it does on the newer cars. If I recall it cost about $110 five years ago and as it's the same length as the POA valve the new hoses will connect like normal. I believe I bought it from Corvette Central and it comes complete with the low pressure switch, wires, and instructions.
