Did the same swap but with an S an J 383. Issues I had was finding an intake and carb that would fit under the stock hood. If I had to do it over again, probably would have gone with a hood with 2 inches more clearance.

I bought that same BP engine for my 1964 C10 short bed step side truck & it is a tire smoker. Thinking about buying one for my 78 C3.

383 is an excellent choice.. You will be happy with the results.. Your trans will be fine , I would always replace the clutch for a new engine, why would you not, unless you just replaced it. No need for any suspension or brake upgrades work unless you want to improve handling .
Any ideas on which clutch to look at?
