I've got an 82 that I'm going to rebuild and pull off the crossfire and go with a new intake and carb. While looking at the Edelbrock Performer RPM, the description said it wouldn't clear a stock corvette hood. Now it didn't state what year but now im concerned about clearance. Anyone have experience with what will fit under a stock hood?
The 82 hood is one year only and includes the underside duct work for the Crossfire induction. It could give you clearance problems. 80-81 hoods should work.
I don't know this to be true and probably shouldn't even post anything here. So don't base anything on my post. I have a 1982 with an Edelbrock performer intake and a quadrajet from a 78. My car currently has a Stinger Hood on it, which has more clearance than the original hood. When I bought my car, the guy gave me the original hood to go with it and said I could swap the hoods out with out any issues.
what are you going to do with the old cross-fire stuff. You also will need a new distributer and a way to lock up the tranny. The 82 hood can be cut on the inside to fit your aircleaner.

I'll keep it in case someone wants to return to stock.
It runs good and the car is pretty quick. I haven't had any problems with this set up.
I honestly can not compare the quadrajet/performer set up to the crossfire because the crossfire was taken off before I purchased it. I have no idea if it's better this way or not, but I was told the car's faster with the carburetor. I get about 15 to 16 mpg with this set up on a stock L82 350 motor.
good luck with your project.
Suggestions on how to modify the trans to work with a carb?
Monster Trans, Bowtie Overdrives, TCI all have adapter brackets to work for Throttle Valve cable connection to Holley, Q-Jet etc.. ... A drop-base Air cleaner will give you another 1- 1 1/12 inch clearance.. If your 82 hood doesn t clear and you want an 81 hood without the crap underneath, I have a couple of them. and it will run stronger above 4000 rpm with carb. The Crossfire is too small, intended for 305 Cu Inches in CA and strangles the engine above 4000 rpm ....DO NOT drive the car without that TV Cable connected and properly adjusted. You will fry the Trans in about 15 minutes

after looking under my hood I don't think there's any way the stock hood will work. I think the guy I got the car from was wrong about being able to change the hoods out. sorry for the hear-say comments. I'm sorry will not post anything else unless I know it to be true from first hand experience.

Hold on there cowboy. You are not going to fit in around here unless you throw at least a few half baked goofy ideas around once in a while.
