Best valve cover gaskets?
Just throwing this out there...does anyone feel strongly about a better gasket than the standard cork one?
I heard that Mr. Gasket makes a rubber infused cork gasket, but would like to hear from others.
68 327/300 , pulling off some plain chrome ones and putting on aluminum finned ones from a 69 350 (just cause i love the look!)

By far the best gasket is the Fel-Pro #1628. They are a little pricy, but they will never leak, they are reuseable, and they have a compression limiter so you can't over tighten them.

I use the Fel-Pro silicone gaskets (#1628) and have never used a sealant. The gaskets are designed to use no sealant. If your mating surfaces are in good condition there should be no need for a sealant. Your mileage may vary.

The 1628 is a staple in the small block community.....
I run these on my 406 with LT-1 covers....they are a plastic shell with rubber embossed flange.....I believe they were made for the 85/86 Tuned Port Vette....

Anyway....they are a bit less expensive and work just as well....
I use stainless studs and nyloc nuts to install them.....just throw the gasket over the studs, install the cover and tighten...
Have fun
