Hey Guys,
My tach stopped working on my 76 auto. I removed the starter recently, when I re-installed tach was broke. I don't know if its related.
The tach is frozen at 5300, nothing happens when I unplug from distributor.
Is there a good way to check to see if it's the tach board or something else?
Thanks!
- Jay
I would pull the connector off the back of the tach, it's kind of hard to reach but very do-able...
Then test the tach wires at the connector for power (C) and ground (D). If you have power and ground, then test continuity on the brown signal wire from the connector to the filter connector. If you have continuity from A to B then bypass the filter and plug the brown wire straight into the coil... If the issue stays, replace the tach board, if the issue goes away, replace the filter.
If you do need to remove the tach for repair, here is the easiest way to remove the left hand lower dash pad. It sounds hard but it's not... 1968-1977 Corvette Left Hand Dash Pad Removal
