I am wondering how far forward the LS engine can go without hitting the front crossmember.
I figure the farther forward it can go, then the TKO 600 I have will fit better , with less problems of driveshaft angles.

The 1" setback mounts will keep the trans close to where it is now, and you'll be able to reuse your driveshaft.
The standard mounts will move the trans forward an inch. I'm running them with the truck accessory spacing and the balancer still doesn't hit the front crossmember. With 98-02 f body or corvette spacing you could move it even farther forward if you wanted.

It depends on which accessories you are running. I have a ls2 out of a gto, and with the stock alternator, it hits the front xmember if I try going more than an inch forward. If you move that or use a different setup, you could go further. I decided not to though as I was worried about the AC compressor hitting the hood/body. I saw some posts where it was really close at 1" forward with certain brackets.

Thanks for the info. I think I will use Holley brackets that put the accessories up top like the original engine.
I know that the TKO 600 is about 2" longer, so if I can gain 1" back, the driveshaft angles won't be as severe.

If you're using the holley brackets, you'll have interference with the PS pulley and A arm. It uses the oddball vette shaft size pump. But there's a smaller pulley that can be swapped. You can find the PN over at LS1tech or pro-touring.
