I have a 82 Vette that I inherited from my father. It has been sitting for about 2.5 years. I recently took it to a shop to have them take a look. Last Monday they replaced the spark plugs, distributor coil and fixed the timing. I was able to drive it home with no issues. Tues went to turn it over and it kept stalling out! Had it towed back to the shop for them to look. First they said the coolant temp sensor was bad so I had them replace. They are stating the car is still idling high and the left side is running cool. They said they would pull the valve covers off and look for a bent or stuck rod??? Does this seem right? I asked them to do a compression test and they don't want to crank over the engine and cause damage. Any input on what can cause a high idle and left side to run cool is greatly appreciated. The car is in the shop now so a quick response is needed!!! HELP
if it turned over fine, and is idling, why would they think there is a bent rod? and no comp. test?
these guys sound pretty incompetent. how cool is too cool? do they even know how to test a temp sensor/guage? where/how are they testing each side's temp?
They replaced the coil because they said it was bad. They said bent rod or stuck valve based on the left side running cool. I need to ask how they are testing. I unfortunately know very little about the mechanics of a corvette. Any questions you can provide that I can ask would be great.
I agree with gungatim, you need to find a new tech. Sounds like they grasping at straws, telling you bull that you won"t understand to cover up for their incompetence. Too cool. as compared to what? bent rod? bent push-rod won't cause high idle but will cause an erratic idle. After 30 years in this business I can tell you this, the number one cause of high idle problems on fuel injected engines is vacuum leak.
