Never heard of a "first" or "2nd" design designation. They may be referring to the early or late 79s. Early 79s have 3 door storage behind seats. Late has 2.

Ask the belt company how they define early and late.

Good luck with this!!
Years ago I went round and round with both DocRebuild and Zip trying to get "correct" belts.
There are different sizes for 79s based on 4 speed, auto, L82 or L48, AC and probably something else.
One of the problems I had was the alt belt. Original is 3/8" wide. The supplied dated/numbered repro belts were both 7/16" wide but the "correct" length.
Seems the correct length in 7/16" is too short than the 3/8" belt cause it rides higher in the grooves. The specific AC belt I needed(I read the no./date/size right off the original) didn't exist! I think I settled for longer.
Power steering shouldn't be a problem. It's either 3/8" X 36 or 7/16" X 36 1/2". Probably be limited to the 7/16".

Default 1979 Fan Belts

Here is a good resource I have found for the engine fan belts:

http://www.mamotorworks.com/Corvette...n&Y=1979&G=&C=

You can also search for other years by changing the drop-down up by the search bar to sort out the relevant years.

They have all the belts listed that were available for the 1979 with GM#'s. All you have to do is select the correct quarter your car was produced in.

Hope this helps.
