Steering Rack 1970 454 - Help!
Can you help.
See attachment I have circled the end joint causing the problem.
When I tried to turn the castellated nut on the tie rod inner end joint (I did take the split pin out) the threaded section moves with it and hence it does not unscrew.
Any ideas?
Kind regards
Paul

That means the taper isn't seated. Can you tighten it down to reseat it and then unscrew the nut?
Or, wedge a pickle fork in there and unscrew the nut

Tried tightening down: no go as the whole threaded ball joint area just turns.
I'll get hold of a pickle fork and try that.

You can also try a clamp to hold the 2 pieces together tightly and put more friction on the tapered seat.

Impact gun works well in these cases. T
