If the shaft bushings are leaking how obvious would the leak be? I've got a wet spot driver side below the shaft and I do smell gas a lot when using full throttle. I've tried to identity the leak holding rpm up. No real evidence of it actually coming out the carb
I would think that if the shaft bushings were badly worn, you'd have a vacuum leak. With the amount of air that's drawn into the carb, it will also be drawn through the shaft/bushing area. Nothing is going to go out of that gap, but rather in through it. You might have a drip after the engine is shut off and some fuel vapor condenses on the shaft and runs out the gap. Just my thought.

If the carb is leaking gas, chances are it's coming from either the gasket between the airhorn and fuel bowl or, more likely, from the fuel line at the inlet. Gas would easily run to the area in your picture in either situation, because that's just a low point where fluids can accumulate (though I would expect it to accumulate more so on the passenger side).
Check the tightness of your fuel line at the inlet before doing anything, unless you already have. I'd avoid driving the thing until you sort it out.
I think the inlet is good I'm gonna dust a little powder around there
That's what I'd do. Clean it up and spray with jockrot powder. Except for a fuel line or stuck float, I would think a running engine would suck gas into the intake.

Most likely when you first pump the throttle to start the gas from the accelerator pump hits the shaft and runs out ,that was and is a very common problem with those Carbs. with it ideling spray some WD 40 around and see if RPM goes up
