Default Steeroids Conversion Questions.

I have a 1974 small block with hooker sidepipe headers and a newer style powers steering pump that came with the complete Gm Crate engine serpentine syatem. #1- will the drivers side header interfere with the connection at column?I believe it's called the U-joint connect. #2-Will the supplied hoses connect directly to the newer steering pump since the system is advertised as direct installation for original components, but i dont have the original pump any longer. 3# does the main unit hang below the oil pan, above or flush? It's just a stock 5 quart pan I believe. #4- Was the conversion really way better than stock? ..If I was to do this I would expect a big difference not a somewhat different feel.... Im thinking of doing this before all wheel alignment..

............. Thanks!!

My doug's sidepipe headers didn't clear my steeroids joints and I had to heat up and bang the heck out of one of the pipes to make it clear. It was unpleasant.

I'm not so sure I would do the conversion again given the choice in hindsight. My steering was really, really bad, but a fresh steering box and other components could have probably satisfied me. I don't regret it, but the header clearance was unexpected.

Thank you so much for your response and the experience going through this. My headers are already jet hot coated
sterling silver and would hate to do anything to them. Also I do have a fresh gearbox as well that's all new suspension parts by Moog..... You gave me something to think about now..

They list these as needed modification.

– Hooker 2224, 2224-1 or 2234 Side Pipes- Dimple May Be Required on Drivers Side

Yeah so you should figure out if someone can dimple those headers and resurface them somehow if you're going forward with the swap, unless the hookers are that much different than the doug's.

In my case, my car isn't pretty. I have black painted sidepipes and if they get rusty or something I'll just blast 'em and repaint 'em black again.
