Default tach cable is sticky

I'm going to replace my cable with a new one shortly but I disconnected it from the distributer and ran a little tape around the opening to keep dirt out. There should not be a vacuum problem or any other kind of problem with doing that?

Nope. Not a problem as long as you can live without the tach. While you're working on it, make sure you disassemble the distributor drive gear and lubricate it.
