Default 1980 Driver Window Seal

I am in the process of replacing the 2 outer door window seal on my 1980 corvette (Driver and Passenger). These are the ones that the prevent rain, dust, leaves from falling inside the door along the seam where the window goes into the door.

I bought 2 new ones from Eckler's, but they appear very different in terms of the shape of the rubber. I installed them, but the fit was so tight I could not get the door/window to close properly even after using all the various adjustments to window.

While the length, shape of the new weather seals is correct, the shape is considerably different from the original.

Has anyone else replace these? Is there a brand/supplier that makes one closer to the original?

You might want to call Eklers to see if they sent you the wrong ones. I just replaced mine a few months back which were ordered from Eklers and they fit perfectly (also 1980). The rubber did seem to bind the window a bit but that has since gone away. I replace both inner and outer while replacing my door panels.

Yes, The part numbers actually taped on the strips were correct and the shape of the chrome strip and length are correct as well as all of the little ***** that snap into the door. However, the actual shape of the rubber flap that actually contacts the window is much wider as compared to the original flap. This appears to be causing the window to push in too far while rising and it then binds on the inner vertical seal on the rear pillar.

I may have to give it another try.

There are two different reproductions of this part, a cheaper version that has a rubber wipe on it and the correct version that has a hair covered wipe.

At one time the only felts we could get were the cheap version and we had no choice but to install them. If you purchased the cheap rubber version you'll have fits with them because the rubber is too long and will drag the glass. They will drag it so hard that a power window car will not raise the door glass.

We used to trim the rubber back until it was about 1/8" long and that was the only way we could get them to work. If you post a picture of the felt I can tell you which you have or just post the pn you purchased and I'll see if I can figure it out. I won't be online again until late tonight though.

On the correct version they have the correct wipe but even then we still have some slight issues when we install them. The issue we run into is the clip that holds them in place and sometimes we have to spread that clip open a bit to get them to stay snapped in.

The correct style felts can be found here.

That may be the situation. Mine are definitely felt and not rubber (validated last night). The tightness went away with mine already i assumed just due to being new.

Where did you get yours? Do you have a part#? Wilcox also replied and I am waiting to confirm. Thanks for replies, I don't want to spend another weekend wrestling with the current ones!

Hate to say it.. but those things are the ones that will jamb up your door glass. I just looked at our site and while we used to offer them it looks as if Tommy pulled these from the site finally...

We have the correct ones, but on a coupe I think they may be on backorder. I'm not positive I put a note on your order for Tommy to check this for me on Monday. I think we may have ran out of them Thursday.
