Default Glass T-Top crack question.

What are members doing with your cracked/damaged glass T-tops. I'm referring specifically to the OEM M1131 mirrored tops.

Are you:

Getting them repaired, if so where.
Scrapping them.
Cashing them in for cores.
Stripping them for parts and saving or selling them.
Still using them.
Selling them as is.
Other reasons.

I replaced mine with a set of these. I sold the old ones (moon style) with another vette I had.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply, I was aware with what's available, I was just wondering about a cracked one I had. If you said you sold yours does that mean they were cracked as I didn't think there was much value in the M1131 when they're cracked?

Another vette I had as a project, had no tops for it. I bought the Melrose set for my current one and included the old t tops with the project vette that I sold. One of the tops did have a crack in it.

Thanks for the reply 7t9l82.

I'll assume most just strip the cracked top of weather-stripping, hardware etc. and throw out the rest?

Default Find another CF with the other one cracked

Usually one of the T-tops breaks. The drivers side top cracked on my '80. I found someone with a cracked passenger side top cracked and sold him my good passenger side top and bought a pair of new ones.

Win-win

So my question to this thread is, what did you do with the cracked one?

I sold my good one and tossed the other one in the garbage then bought fiberglass ones and had them painted to match the car problem solved...

I sold if for cheap on eBay. My goal was to reduce the net cost of new T-tops.

The cracked passenger side that came with the car is currently under my work bench, used the brackets and handle on the OEM replacement I came across on Kijiji.

Bought an 82 for parts. It came with mirrored tops that looked like his girl friend let them loose at 65 mph. But they we're all in one piece.
Not wanting to throw them away, I plasti dipped them with a spray can of black. Built up the cracks first, then coated the whole thing with a good thick coat. Inside as well.
Now I have a normal set of tops. And you would never know, unless you know. You know?.........

Hi Brian, (and Frank) mine is still sitting in my garage after 8 years... I figure someday I'll know what to do with it :-)

thompson astro top can put smoked panels on your broken tops, they may have other options . and there may be other vendors offering the same service, but i really don't know of another.

Are you saying you have a set of cracked M1131 glass tops that have been sitting in your garage for 8 years?

Thanks for the reply everyone, in conclusion, I believe I'm going to strip the weather-stripping hardware etc and probably throw out the cracked top. I think I found a replacement M1131 online for about $200.00 which is probably cheaper than getting mine repaired.

Um no. The Drivers side panel cracked many years ago up at Wasaga. It was a hot day, I closed the door, the panel cracked... I have the Blue M1131 tops, and boy did I get a lot of attention that day ! Anyway, I found a replacement at T&M Trim in Toronto, so only the cracked drivers one is in my garage. The passenger one is still origional.

-Stephen

(PS, I work in Brampton and hope to meet you some day ! I missed your dads cruise last year due to other commitments)
