Well, I am looking to install a decent Audio System in my 78. I wanted to construct some sort of box for the back area for a Sub, but not exactly sure what to do. Also, is there any suggestions for speaker arrangements and what to buy/how to arrange them inside the car?? I would like to do something about those small 4"x6"'s in the dash. If anyone can supply me with any info or pictures of what you may have rigged up, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
they sky is the limit. you can fit a 10" in the storage area behind the passenger seat. im going to be doing 4 10"s and needless to say i wont have any space for t-tops. im using 10" eclipse subs, so i will so i be able to use my cargo cover. eclipse, JL, Kicker, and a couple other subs are known for how small of an ecnlosure they need to run properly. i have two 10s in my blazer right now and the box only has about .75 cubic feet of air per sub. they rattle my entire blazer, and flex my roof panel. most people arent crazy like me so i would reccommend one JL 10 in the sotage area.
You've got more room a 78, but here's what I did in my 76, that's an 8" sub but you can fit a 10, I also put the mids back there since there isn't room in the front....
I recently finished my stereo and here is what I did: Made wood plates that run along to of fender wells in the rear for 6x9, took the advice of a post I read before about making cardboard template to get a good fit, mounted my amp on the back plate, put a bazooka tube firing towards the back behind the driver seat, so I can still have room for my t-tops behind the passenger seat, and replaced the front 4x6 with infinity plates (be careful here cause there is not much room for the speakers so when the speaker flex up they hit the dash speaker grills, I’m going to cut my stock grills out then recover with speaker grill carpet) My stereo ended up sounding really good. Good luck!
Yeah, I would like to do my best to still leave room for the T-Tops. I don't want to end up leaving them at home and get caught out in a rain storm while cruising. Anything that lets me still have room for the T-Tops is a great idea
I took the easy way and went with a Bazooka along with 6x9 Triax in the back and 4x6 coax up front. I could also use a power amp for the rears but haven't gotten to that yet.
get a good component setup for the front speakers 5 1/4 will fit in the kick panel and you can fab up a board to hold the tweeter in the spot of the 4x6's. It'll be tons better than just using 4x6's in the dash.
For the front speakers on my car i'm going with HiFonics Zeus HZCX5.2C powered by a JBL 180.2 amp.
