I'm doing the debate thing about making modifications to my stock exhaust 82 with the TPI.
I'm looking for a budget conscious upgrade for the Bad-A sound. Sure performance is great, but I'm old enough that I'm more interested in cruising without drone but sounding that I can go faster than I can.
Right now I have the factory "2 into cat, out to dual mufflers"
So do I....
Screw it and do a full, true dual and find the money (I have it)... or...
Delete the cat, and get mufflers that sound great...or...
just swap out the mufflers...or...
be thankful my current stock system is functioning properly and is paid for and put my money into other things (insert ideas here)
Well, I am not sure how much or if any power was gained by going to a TPI, but I would put that money into pulling out that old slug of an engine and giving it a proper refresh/rebuild, something with some ballz...
The engine configuration, heads, intake, cam, cr, will play into how the exhaust sounds.
Then you can get rid of the stock exhaust and go with true duels.
I think the last post miss understood your question. Put some flow master 44's on it, most people have no idea what's under the hood of an 82 vette. It'll sound bad a@$ rolling up to stop lights, and your only in it for maybe 250 bucks.
In my opinion, get rid of the cat and go with a true dual exhaust system with an H pipe and a set of performance mufflers of your choice. That is what is on my 78 Pace Car and I love the sound.
Unless you're certain they are reasonably new, consider replacing all of the vacuum hoses before you do anything to the exhaust. I know that sounds strange but after doing such to my '79 the sound changed remarkably! Previously it sounded great at idle and while accelerating but there was an awful drone while cruising. Now the drone is gone and idling/acceleration sound better than ever. I do have true dual. No cat, no "H" pipe and unknown mufflers.
you have to decide how much you want to spend.the cheapest route is to put on the mufflers of your choice, and gut the cat.The most expensive is the tru duals .you can buy the tru duals at one of the corvette parts sites or you can have custom bent pypes.i have 2-1-2 with a turbo mufflers ,no drone.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the '82 only has a single hole in the crossmember for the exhaust. To go to true duals, you'll need to change the crossmember. With that said, I still think true duals are the way to go. You ca buy a complete bolt on system from Corvette Central with Magnaflow mufflers if you want a little more noise.
both pipes go down the same side next to each other.or you can change the trans crossover then the pipes go strait out the back.money and time .how much work and money for stock motor.i would put the money into new heads with a good cam .then it would sound good however you did the exhaust.
As others have mentioned, you could go with a set of Super 44's. These mufflers will give you a pretty aggressive exterior and interior sound level. If you want to maintain a relatively aggressive exterior sound with a little less interior noise, Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow mufflers will do it. We also have a 50 Series Delta Flow muffler that you can run. Flowmaster 50 Series mufflers feature internal resonance chambers that are specifically designed to reduce drone while still providing a moderately aggressive exhaust note. Feel free to give us a call at 707-544-4761 if you have any additional questions about your exhaust system or would like a specific recommendation based on your sound preferences.

Looks like Op wants to leave it stock
Both brands posting sound completely different Id post up and see if a member in your area has either or so you can hear first hand and decide
Delta Flow 50s werent bad (better than the 4xseries) on resonance, beter than expected but its there do sound good at WOT
Everyone has different tolerance best to see for yourself so you only buy one pair. Sound clips on the web are hard to get the same idea as in person
You can never go wring with a good quality catback like our 16889 system. If you were trying to stick to a budget, a pair of our dual mufflers do wonders!
