Default 1968 327 casting number

Casting no. Is 3914660. I believe this is a 1968 327 that was used in the base '68 vette. However, the numbers on the front pad look unusual. The first set of numbers are not in a straight line-some of the digits are above the line and some are below. And, the 2nd set is gone. I can't tell what plant it was made in, the build date or the suffix letters. Perhaps the motor was rebuilt and the block was decked and that removed the 2nd set of numbers. It is being represented to me to be an original, numbers matching engine. Do you think this is the engine the car was born with? Thx, Bob

Hi Bob, I show it listed for everything but a Vette, it shows Chevelle's, Nova's, etc.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. My persinal records here show that casting number as an OEM truck platform we did many years ago.

Found this at Chevy-Camaro.com ...

3914660 1968 327 210-300(hp) 2-bolt Passenger/Chevelle/Chevy II/Camaro/Corvette

Based on your description of the stamp pad, I would call it inconclusive at best as an original engine. If you can post some pictures of the stamp pad, there are some more knowledgeable folks here that could give you a more informed evaluation.

Good luck... GUSTO

That was my conclusion as well-inconclusive.

The Black Book and NCRS Judging Guide say 68 Corvette 327s were 3914678 castings.
